Connecting to PC

When connecting the N900 to PC with the usb-cable, it does not appear always in my operating system (Win XP). I have to remove and replug the cable various times until it appears.

Wifi

It's rare that the N900 does not find all the Wifi-networks. I'm right now connected with my laptop to a network that the N900 does not find. Disappointting again!

Some bugz...

Using my N900 I have already encountered some bugs related to the desktop widgets. When saving the settings of some widget after editing them, some of my previously set widgets have disappeared. This has occurred at least two times already, and it is very frustrating. After setting up all the widgets on all the four desktops, they are gone..

Also there are some customization details that I would like to know. I have no idea how to make a set of background pictures, to change the background for all the four desktops with one click. Now I have to select the custom photos one by one, and it takes time.

Internet radio

I find the N900's internet radio really convenient, but when I added manually a stream that did not work, I couldn't find a way to edit or delete the added radio bookmark! If someone knows how to do that, please leave a comment and let me know how! Frustrating!

The descending has already started

Thinking about the enthusiasm, the descending has already started. Even if the N900 is still an absolutely cool device, I feel like the sharpest attraction had already gone. The cause can be my real needs, which do not actually include a mobile computer. I mean, I have never felt a need for a smart phone nor have I a habit of carrying my laptop always with me, so the N900 have not really solved any problem for me yet. It's there, but without an acute need. Also the time I have had to use it is still very short.

Now I'm planning to try to create my own desktop themes by jointing four pictures together to the four desktops the operating system, Maemo 5, offers. There are two different themes by default plus some cool photography to be placed on the desktops. By now I only have installed some widgets, such as weather, facebook, news, and contact widgets. They are quite cool.

Being protective

Huoaaah!

I have gone trough the first deception related to Nokia N900! How is it possible?

Well, the thing is, that it's not really the N900's fault. I just wanted to protect my device as well as possible, so I bought a special protective film for the screen. I found online this patented ZAGG shield, but as in my local distributor it was out of stock, I just spent 7€ in a bulk one. Comparing to the screen shield products found for example in eBay, my purchase was quite expensive.

After all this I messed it up and did not manage to put it in place smoothly, but leaving some irritating air bubbles between the shield and the screen...! My mistake, but I am really pissed off. Well, it does not affect to the usage, but it looks awful and strips off all the glamour...

I have to live with this at least for a while, until I decide to get another try in placing a protective tape. I am also looking for some case or cover. Those are still hard to find in my local stores, have to take a look online. At least in eBay you can find various interesting products at very low price.

The very first touch

When I had the stylish black sales package in my hand, I had almost no expectations. I knew very little about the N900, and I had only heard about Maemo. I had no clear picture how would the whole thing be like.

Once I opened the package and tried to put my Sim-card in, I faced the first complication: How to remove the back cover without breaking it? The answer was easy, but actually even if there was a sticker in the cover with instructions, it did not make clear if you have to push a button while opening the cover or not. Afterwards I foud out that no button is to be pushed simultaneously.

Well, battery in, and power button... exiting seconds... the phone started, astonishing quality of the screen was my first impression, while the Nokia connective hands animation was played on the screen neatier than ever seen before. Hich tech. If I had never experienced it before, this is it!

The new beginning!

I got kind of by accident this brand new Nokia N900, and it is such a big thing that I had to start a blog about the User Experience I get from it!

I'm a college student, studying IT, SW and Usability, so this is some kind of self study for me, how to analyze all the aspects of User Experience. By now, I have to say I am absolutely astonished about my new device. This is my second day using it, and I can't find ways to praise it enough. Let's see how my feelings develop in long term use.

Welcome to this blog, I hope to help many of them who are thinking whether it is worth to buy a N900 or not sharing my views. I also hope to hear your comments about the topic.
